2012 Solar Eclipse (Kauai, Hawaii Photographer)
Solar Eclipse 2012 captured from my back yard. It never got super full here in Hawaii only about 10% but it was still a super cool site.

My daughter turned 8! I can not believe I am a mother of an 8 year old! AND that she is growing up so fast! This shoot wasn’t really even a shoot, just her after school as we passed her favorite patch of flowers growing along the road. In the midst of how busy life can be these days, it is always good to take a step back and reflect on the little things…like our growing children! This is so my daughter, nature lover, flower picker, cowboy boot wearing diva! Happy Birthday to you TT! I love you!

On my way home from a session with an adorable family….whom I will post soon!!! I was driving down the longest straight stretch of road on Kauai, the Mana Stretch. I was taking in the view and enjoying the silence in my car….which is usually filled with screaming little children! I was so excited to spot this Pueo, Hawaiian Owl, sitting on the telephone wires. Since I was alone, without busy kids in my car…I pulled over just to watch the predator stalk it’s pray, possibly a little mouse in the brush.
Sometimes in life we need to slow down and just take in the things we might not have noticed if we were rushing thru this rat race we call life! Enjoy the simple things, enjoy little gifts which pop up all around us and look onto them as a source of inspiration.
As this pueo spotted me, it flew off…souring into the sunset….spreading his wings to fly! Perhaps so it too could be alone with the stillness and silence of our natural world which we all share! How ever you may find your inspiration….it’s there to be found!!
Hawaiian Monk seals can often be seen on our beaches here in Kauai. It’s pretty unusual for them to show up on our western beaches out here in Kekaha! This seal was born out in Milolii last year and has been injured and has been frequenting the western side of the islands beaches. I stumbled upon this guy while doing a family portrait the other night! I called the Monk Seal rescue right away, here in Kauai it consists of one lady
To all our visitors please let our sleeping monk seals rest. They are wild animals and can bite! They need to rest to digest their food so they can swim fast enough to escape predators such as sharks. Enoy them from a distance, use a telephoto lens while taking pictures and let them have their space! Aloha
The season of fall & Thanksgiving are by far my favorite seasons of all. The winter swells build and the cool trades come back…and sometimes occasionally on the west side of Kauai we will get a drizzle with a visit from a daily rainbow. Ahhh, fall in the islands! Ahhh, the season of giving!
So your really ahead of the game this year! You had your professional portraits done, you got your DVD from the photographer of all your images…NOW WHAT!? Do you run off to the first big box business on your block or do you ask your photographer…”how can I take these pictures to the NEXT STEP!?” Of course your do!
It’s the season of giving and portraits are one of the most beloved presents esp. to those who have everything! It’s all my mom ever asks for!
My advice to you…GO BIG! GO Canvas! WOW your house guests and your favorite aunty on your gift list with big bold canvas prints in a collection or simply a large single image showcased on a large wall or above a mantel. Gallery Canvas Wraps will do just that, WOW! Gallery Wraps will turn any wall into a conversation piece. These examples are a collection of 9 black and white and color images in 20×30 Gallery Wraps. They are archival and are guaranteed for 200 years not to fade. They look rich and stunning from any angle!
For a less expensive alternative ask for the popular Stand-Out’s to make your images STAND-OUT. These Stand-Out Showcase Prints are not canvas but give the feeling and look of a canvas wrap. Notice Black or White borders the sides of these showcase prints, they do not wrap around.
And of course what would this season be without Greeting Cards!
Here are a few examples from last year, I wish I took pics of all of the clients I did but here are my personal ones…the sky is the limit on design options and I will be selling seasonal cards in Hanapepe Town.
Custom messages inside and on back. An additional image may be added to the back.
MOST IMPORTANTLY…Be Thankful for all we have and all we are this holiday season!
Aloha and Thanks for stopping by!
I am so excited and honored to have had the opportunity to shoot for the cover of Edible Hawaiian Islands Magazine. I have always admired this publication and always managed to stumble upon one while traveling throughout the country. There is an Edible Magazine for some of my favorite cities and is a great resource for local shopping and businesses within a community. It was so fun working with them and getting creative with the subject, a Meyers Lemon. What can we do with a lemon you ask…check out the fall issue to find out…and don’t forget to look at the COVER! Aloha!
Plantation Gardens is the setting of a beautiful orchid and cactus garden. It’s a great place to relax and have an intimate affair among thousands of blooming orchids or simply a great place to have dinner. Located in Poipu on Kauai’s South Shore.
It’s amazing to me sometimes that such natural beauty still exists! I feel so lucky in my life to have spent my days in such beautiful places. To have grown up in one of the most competition rich cities full of culture and inspiration, to have been able to travel to some of the most astounding landscapes and now to have my abode in one of the worlds most beautiful islands. In a modern world so polluted with greed, man-made toxins and structures, to me I find peace and inspiration amongst nature, its silence, its colors and its beauty.
